The story
The Correale di Terranova Museum, at Sorrento, was born from the bequest of the brothers Pompeo and Alfredo Correale, Counts of Terranova: left without heirs, they wanted the art collections accumulated by the family to become a museum. The foundation was set up in 1902 and the museum inaugurated in 1924, in the family villa with the garden facing the sea.
What to see
The collections range among seventeenth-century furniture, paintings from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century, archaeological finds and above all a famous collection of porcelain, in particular of the Capodimonte school. The museum's park, with the panoramic terrace over the gulf, is part of the visit.
Tips
It is one of the most refined museums of the Sorrento peninsula, often less crowded than the star attractions: check hours and tickets on the official site. Do not miss the garden with the view over the gulf.
