The story
On the Campanian Apennines, at 870 metres, Vallata stands on a hill straddling the valley of the Ufita and that of the Calaggio, in the historic territory of the Baronia. The name tells precisely this: a settlement suspended between two valleys. A 'Ruggero da Vallata' appears already in a document of 1111, and the remains of the walls bear witness to the ancient foundation.

The village, gathered on the hill, keeps traces of the ancient walls. But you also come to Vallata for the nature: the territory falls within the special protection zone of the Woods and Springs of the Baronia, from which was born the inter-municipal urban park of the same name — woods and waters among the most intact of eastern Irpinia.
