The story
The market of Porta Nolana stretches around the ancient Aragonese gate of the same name, erected in the fifteenth century by Giuliano da Maiano between the two towers of Faith and Hope. For generations it has been the most genuine market in Naples, above all for fish, but also for fruit, spices and products of every kind: a piece of the city that renews itself every morning.
What to see
The stalls squeezed among the alleys and the historic gate, the cries of the fishmongers, the crates of just-arrived fish, the counters of dried fruit and preserves. It is a market to experience with the senses, among colours and voices, and remains one of the places where the working-class soul of the city shows itself without filters, a stone's throw from the station.
