The story
Pietramelara rises in the plain at the northern foot of Monte Maggiore, in the Upper Caserta area. Founded by the Lombard princes Landolfo and Adenolfo, its medieval village was born from careful planning: a radial layout around an ancient Lombard tower, girdled by walls with twelve towers. It was part of the possessions of the abbey of Montecassino.
