The story

Morcone climbs the steep slopes of a height at the foot of the Matese, facing the valley of the river Tammaro. The old centre, in a karst territory rich in springs, is girdled by the gorges of two streams. At its foot today opens the lake of the Tammaro, the artificial basin created by the Campolattaro dam.

What to see

The old centre of Morcone, with the houses that climb in steps up the side of the hill, is a typical stone 'nativity scene' (presepe) of the Matese Sannio. Around it, the landscape of the Tammaro valley and the lake, among springs and karst woods on the slopes of the Matese.
