The story
Facing the Calore Irpino, Luogosano is cited from the fifth century. It owes its name and origins to a monastery: the Lombards built there the 'cell' of Santa Maria di Locosano, active from the seventh to the eleventh century and tied to the abbey of San Vincenzo al Volturno. In an act of 982 the emperor Otto II calls it 'Sanus-Locus', the healthy place — hence the name of the town.
What to see
The village, gathered on the side of the hill above the Calore, carries in its history the mark of the early-medieval monastery that gave it its name. Today it is above all a land of vines: Luogosano falls among the municipalities of the production area of Taurasi DOCG.
