The story
A small village of a few hundred inhabitants in the valley of the river Sabato, Chianche takes its name from the Latin planca, the polygonal stones with which the Romans paved the roads. Documented from the thirteenth century, in the Middle Ages it was a hamlet dependent on Montefusco; above the built-up area watches a castle of probable Norman origin. It is formed of three cores: Chianche, Chianchetelle and San Pietro Indelicato.
What to see
The castle that dominates the village and the weave of the three small cores are the heart of the visit. But Chianche is above all a land of wine: its vineyards produce the famous Greco di Tufo DOCG, and the landscape is the orderly one of the vine-clad hills of the valley of the Sabato.
