The story

Ceppaloni stands on a hill territory between the valley of the Sabato and that of the Serretelle stream, at the gates of Benevento. The first records date to the end of the eighth century, when it depended on the Lombard gastaldate of Benevento; in the Middle Ages the territory was dotted with monastic churches tied to the great Benevento abbeys of Santa Sofia and San Modesto.

What to see

The heart of Ceppaloni is its medieval village, dominated by the eleventh-century Norman castle. Around the main town spread the hamlets, among woods of oak and chestnut typical of the Benevento hills.
