The story
On a slope along the river Calore Irpino, Castelfranci takes its name from the 'Castrum de Francis', the land returned in 1248, with a bull of Pope Innocent IV, to Bella De Amicis. The village is one of the eighteen municipalities of the Terminio-Cervialto, and today it is above all a land of wine, in the heart of oenological Irpinia.
What to see
The sanctuary of Santa Maria del Soccorso, with its three Baroque portals on the façade, holds inside a painting by the eighteenth-century painter Matteo Vigilante. Around it, the landscape of the Calore and the vineyards: Castelfranci falls among the municipalities of the production area of Taurasi DOCG, the great red from Aglianico grapes.

It is a good base for the Irpinia of wine: you are in the Taurasi DOCG area, among vines and wineries along the Calore. The car is better for moving among the wine villages. To be combined with Paternopoli, Montemarano and Nusco, a short distance away.
