The story
Castel Baronia was born around a castle founded by the Normans, and for centuries tied its history to that of Vico — the present Trevico — on which it depended. The 1694 earthquake inflicted grave damage on it, striking the bishop's palace, the baronial one and the mother church of Santa Maria delle Fratte. Under the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies it was the head of a district in the district of Ariano.
