The story
With little more than two hundred and eighty inhabitants, Cairano is one of the smallest municipalities of Upper Irpinia, perched on the border with Basilicata. From this tiny village an artist of international fame was born: Franco Dragone, director and choreographer, who has also tied cultural initiatives to Cairano. In the Mother Church of San Martino Vescovo is kept a wooden statue of the saint that survived unharmed the 1980 earthquake.

The small old centre, clinging to its hill, is the heart of Cairano. In the Mother Church of San Martino the wooden statue of the saint — spared by the 1980 quake — is at once an object of devotion and a sign of continuity. Around it, the harsh landscape of the border Upper Irpinia.
