The story
The Underwater Park of the Gaiola is a marine protected area of forty-two hectares off Posillipo, established in 2002, which protects the two small islets of the Gaiola and the surrounding seabeds. Beneath the sea lie the remains of the Roman villa of Pausilypon — harbours, nymphaea and fish ponds — in a rare meeting of archaeology and nature. Tradition also links to the islet a reputation as an 'unlucky' place.
