The story
The Bussento Grottoes Oasis, at Morigerati, is a WWF-affiliated protected area of 607 hectares in the Cilento National Park. It holds a stretch of the river Bussento, which here re-emerges from the subsoil after a karst course, in a gorge of rare beauty and coolness.
What to see
A route through the greenery leads to the resurgence of the Bussento, where the river comes back to light among the rocks, and to an ancient water mill active until the 1960s. It is a humid and shady corner, rich in nature, beneath the village of Morigerati.

Tips
The visit to the oasis (about two hours) starts from the visitor centre of Morigerati and is run by the WWF: check days, hours and arrangements before going. The path goes down to the gorge and back up: suitable shoes and a minimum of leg strength. Cool even in summer.
