A canyon of white tufo (volcanic tuff) pinnacles that look like melted candles, carved by water over thousands of years. The path drops down among them and ends, almost as a joke, facing the sea of the Maronti.

The story
The Path of the Pizzi Bianchi leads to a small canyon hidden in the heart of Ischia, above the beach of the Maronti, in the municipality of Serrara Fontana. Here the water has carved into the white tuff a row of sharp pinnacles, up to several metres high, often crowned by a darker stone that has protected them from erosion: an almost lunar landscape among the vegetation.
What to see
The «pizzi bianchi» (white spires) that tower in the gully, the grottoes dug into the tuff once used as cellars by the farmers and the oak woods around. It is one of the most surprising and least known places of the island, where geology becomes sculpture, in a silence far from the crowded beaches.

The path starts from the hamlet of Noia, at Serrara Fontana, and immediately descends steeply on a slippery surface: trekking shoes and a sure step are needed, and it is not advised for those who suffer from vertigo, for the sheer stretches. The extension towards the Maronti can be demanding or interrupted by the vegetation: find out first and do not go alone.
