The story
The Gorges of the Calore are five narrow incisions carved by the river Calore Lucano in the rock of the upper Calore valley, in the Cilento National Park. Limestone walls tens of metres high, humid and in shade, enclose a stretch of river of great beauty, the goal of excursions and canoe descents.
What to see
The emerald-green river flowing between the sheer walls, the paths along the banks and the points where you can bathe: a cool and wild environment, much loved in summer. From Felitto the routes and the rental of canoes and pedal boats set off.
Hours and prices
Free entry.
Tips
If you bathe, caution: the river water is cold, there are currents and the bottom is uneven with deep points — over the years there have been accidents. Do not dive into waters you do not know and do not leave children unattended. For canoes and routes, turn to the organised points of Felitto; water shoes are useful.
