The story
The Faraglioni are the three rock stacks that rise from the sea south-east of Capri, symbol of the island and among the most recognisable profiles in the Mediterranean. Shaped by erosion from the island's own limestone, for centuries they have fed the imagination of travellers, painters and cinema.
What to see
The first, the Faraglione di Terra, is joined to the island by a thin isthmus; the middle one is pierced by a natural tunnel that boats pass right through; the third, the Scopolo or Faraglione di Fuori, is the only place in the world where the blue lizard lives, endemic to this rock. They are admired from above at the Belvedere di Tragara and the Gardens of Augustus, or up close by boat, passing beneath the arch.

Tips
The finest way to see them is from the Belvedere di Tragara, reachable on foot from the centre of Capri along a scenic walk; to pass under the arch of the middle Faraglione you need a boat trip instead, among the many on offer at the harbour of Marina Grande. The blue lizard lives only on the outer stack: look at it, do not disturb it.
